When your lab demands speed, precision, and flexibility, having the right evaporation system isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. Whether you’re working with DNA, proteins, or solvents, the CentriVap Pro is designed to help you get the job done faster, smarter, and safer.
Let’s walk through how to configure your CentriVap Pro setup for maximum efficiency—so you can focus less on your equipment and more on your results.
Before selecting your system components, take a moment to consider what your work really requires. Your sample type, solvent use, volume and throughput all play a role in choosing the right configuration.
Here are a few key questions to guide your selection:
What volume are you evaporating?
Both Standard CentriVap and CentriVap Pro models can handle up to 50 ml per container. But if you’re looking to scale up, the CentriVap Pro accommodates more samples with stackable rotor designs—ideal for high-throughput workflows. For volumes beyond 50 ml, consider Labconco’s RapidVap™ Evaporators as an alternative.
Are your samples temperature sensitive?
For delicate samples containing RNA, enzymes, or proteins, a Refrigerated CentriVap Pro provides precise thermal control from -10°C to +100°C—helping to preserve sample integrity.
Are you working with corrosive solvents?
Harsh chemicals like HCl or acetic acid call for an Acid-Resistant CentriVap Pro, which includes a PTFE-coated chamber, Hastelloy™ components, and a chemically resistant vacuum setup.
Need eyes on your samples mid-run?
Add the CentriZap™ Strobe Light to observe your samples through the lid in real time—without interrupting your process.
A diverse range of CentriVap configurations are available to match your workflow. Here’s a quick breakdown:
CentriVap Pro
A general-purpose powerhouse for labs that need efficient, consistent evaporation.
Refrigerated CentriVap Pro
Perfect for heat-sensitive applications, with eco-friendly refrigerants and precise temperature control.
Acid-Resistant CentriVap Pro
Built tough to handle corrosive vapors, featuring chemical-resistant materials and components.
DNA CentriVap Pro
Fully loaded and ready to run right out of the box. This model includes an integrated vacuum pump, glass traps, and a stainless steel DNA rotor for convenience and ease of use.
CentriVap Standard
A streamlined option for basic evaporation needs, without the advanced touchscreen operating system and increased sample capacity of the CentriVap Pro.
All CentriVap Pro models include the VaporWorks™ OS, which lets you create and store custom protocols, log run data, and run diagnostics—adding smart controls to your sample prep process.
Rotor selection matters—especially if you’re processing a variety of sample containers. Choose from a wide range of rotors designed for microcentrifuge tubes, vials, conical tubes, or microplates. For even greater throughput, many rotor styles—like the DNA, Hex, and High-Capacity rotors—can be stacked to double your sample count.
Need chemical protection? PTFE-coated rotors are available for applications involving harsh solvents.
Cold traps prevent vapors from reaching and damaging your vacuum pump. Selecting the right trap temperature depends on your sample’s solvent substrate:
• -50° C: Best for aqueous samples and most general lab use
• -84° C: Recommended for solvents like chloroform or acetonitrile with lower eutectic temperatures
• -105° C: Ideal for volatile solvents such as methanol and ethanol
Each Labconco cold trap integrates seamlessly with the CentriVap system, and some can even be adapted for use in freeze drying workflows with the Cold Trap Manifold accessory.
Your vacuum source is the engine behind your evaporation system. Labconco offers several options depending on your chemical resistance and vacuum depth needs:
Diaphragm Vacuum Pumps
Compact, oil-free, and compatible with most applications, these are a great all-around choice for the CentriVap Pro.
Rotary Vane or Hybrid Pumps
Use these when you need deeper vacuum levels or faster evaporation times. Just make sure your solvents are compatible with these oil-based systems.
Fine-tune your system with accessories that boost functionality:
• CentriZap™ Strobe Light: Keep an eye on samples during runs without opening the lid.
• CentriVap Cart: Add mobility to your setup for multi-lab use or flexible bench space.
• Secondary Traps: Enhance vapor capture capacity for demanding or multi-solvent workflows.
• Cold Trap Manifold: Turn your trap into a dual-purpose freeze dryer for small samples.
Configuring your CentriVap Pro system is easier when you start with the science. By aligning your application needs with the right components, you can build a high-performance evaporation solution that keeps up with your lab’s pace.
