LABCONCO PARAMOUNT DUCTLESS ENCLOSURE SPECIFICATION PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 Work Included: 1.01.01 This specification covers the requirements for the purchase of bench-mounted self-contained, carbon-filtered and carbon/HEPA-filtered enclosures, which require no ducting. 1.01.02 Bench-mounted Paramount Ductless Enclosures in 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6-foot widths are covered by this specification. 1.01.03 This specification sets the intent for quality, performance, and appearance. 1.02 Quality Assurance: 1.02.01 The manufacturer maintains a testing facility at their place of business for the performance testing of Paramount Ductless Enclosures. Both enclosure and installation conform to good construction practices and are approved by the owner/user. The test facility, as well as the manufacturing facility and its quality control procedures, are available for owner/user inspection. 1.02.02 A computer-based carbon filter-modeling program is used by the manufacturer to estimate filter life and the appropriateness of using a carbon-filtered enclosure for the customer's application. 1.02.03 All Paramount Ductless Enclosures wired for 115 volts, 60 Hz, meet or exceed all minimum requirements of UL Standard 3101-1 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 1010.1-92 and carry the ETL Testing Laboratories seal in the U.S. and Canada. All ductless enclosures wired for 230 volts, 50 Hz, conform to the following CE (European Community) requirements: Electrical Safety Standard: IEC 1010-1 and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive: 89/336/EEC. 1.03 References: 1.03.01 The bench-mounted Paramount Ductless Enclosure conforms to the following regulations and standards: SEFA 1-2006 NFPA 45 (Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals 1982) section 6-1 through 6-14 ASTM E-84 Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials ASHRAE 110-95 (Method of Testing Performance of Laboratory Fume Hoods) ANSI Z9.5 (Laboratory Ventilation) UL 3101-1 (115 volts, 60 Hz models only) CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 1010.1-92 (115 volt, 60 Hz models only) CE Conformity Marking (230 volt models only) 1.04 Submittals: 1.04.01 Bench mounted Paramount Ductless Enclosure specification sheets and product manuals are submitted by the manufacturer upon request. The enclosure supplier submits shop drawings when necessary for clarification. 1.05 Delivery and Storage: 1.05.01 Bench mounted Paramount Ductless Enclosures are delivered adequately protected from damage during shipment. 1.06 Warranty 1.06.01 Manufacturer's warranty against defects in material or workmanship on its Paramount Ductless Enclosure for 1 year from date of installation or 2 years from date of purchase, whichever is sooner, includes replacement of parts (except filters and lamps) and labor. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 Acceptable Manufacturer: 2.01.01 Labconco Corporation, 8811 Prospect Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri 64132, Paramount Ductless Enclosure, Model numbers as described below. 2-Foot Models: 6963200, 6963200 3-Foot Models: 6963300, 6963301, 6963302, 6963320, 6963321, 6963322 4-Foot Models: 6963400, 6963401, 6963402, 6963403, 6963420, 6963421, 6963422, 6963423 5-Foot Models: 6963501, 6963503, 6963521, 6963523 6-Foot Models: 6963601, 6963603, 6963621, 6963623 2.02 Materials: 2.02.01 Static-dissipating, epoxy-coated aluminum is used for the frame. 2.02.02 Static-dissipating, epoxy-coated steel is used for plenums and baffle (on models without clear back). No unreliable plastic-to-plastic bonding is used. 2.02.03 Static-dissipating, tempered safety glass is used for side walls and front sash. 2.02.04 Static-dissipating, tempered safety glass is used for rear wall and baffle (on models with clear back). 2.02.05 Fluorescent lighting provides 45 to 60 foot-candles on work surface. 2.02.06 Tempered safety glass sash and side panels are 1/4" thick tempered safety glass. 2.02.07 Motor is non-sparking, ECM type. 2, 3, 4, and 5-foot models have one motor. 6-foot models have two motors. Sparkless motorized impellers are constructed of backward curved centrifugal fans highly resistant to particles with maintenance-free ball bearings and runs over 50,000 hours. Bushings are not acceptable. 2.02.08 Carbon filter clamping mechanism is a gas-assist type. 2.02.09 An 8.2-foot 3-wire cord and plug is provided. (Models wired for 230 volts, 50 Hz have a cord but no plug.) 2.02.10 A vapor sensor provides a detection method upon filter saturation for organic solvent, ammonia, or formaldehyde concentrations in the exhaust stream, with optimum detection at 1-10 parts per million, and upon detection, to activate audible/visual alarm. 2.02.11 A redundant sensor provides a detection method for organic solvent, ammonia, or formaldehyde concentrations in the exhaust stream with optimum detection at 1-10 parts per million, and upon detection, to activate audible/visual alarm. 2.02.12 Optional work surface is dished to contain spills and constructed of solid epoxy. Deck mounted services, cup sink, and gooseneck faucet are available for work surfaces. 2.02.13 Optional adjustable height base stand (not included with ductless enclosure) is epoxy-coated steel and ADA compliant. 2.02.14 Optional mobile base stand (not included with enclosure) is epoxy-coated tubular steel frame with 5" diameter toe-locking casters and solid epoxy work surface. 2.02.15 Optional base cabinet (not included with enclosure) is epoxy-coated steel with solid epoxy work surface. 2.02.16 Accessory carbon-based filters provide a minimum of 7.5 lbs. of activated or 10.0 lbs. of treated carbon per filter. 2.02.17 Accessory HEPA filters are 99.99% efficient for removing 0.3 micron particulates or larger. 2.02.18 Bench-mounted Paramount Ductless Enclosure operates with up to two different types of stackable filters. The 2-ft enclosures require two filters, the 3-ft enclosures require four filters, the 4-ft and 5-ft enclosures require six filters, and the 6-ft enclosures require eight filters. 2.03 Fabrication: 2.03.01 Overall exterior dimensional information on bench top Paramount Ductless Enclosures are as described in the table below. 2.03.02 Sash is angled approximately 10 degrees on two, three, and four-foot models and approximately 7 degrees on five and six-foot models for better visibility. Taller models have a sash that incorporates an external gas-assist lift and locks to a loading height of 28.2 inches. Extra tall models have a loading height of 31.2 inches. 2.03.04 Enclosure is fully assembled and pre-wired at the manufacturer's factory. 2.03.05 Motor/blower and light are controlled by separate switches, and are programmable to turn off after a set period of time. 2.03.06 Blower is located behind the front panel and provides face velocities of 60-100 fpm. Two timers are user programmable 1) to alarm at user-determined intervals so the filter is checked 2) to alarm at a user-determined time so the filter should be changed. MENU, FILTER, UP/DOWN, and ENTER programming buttons allow the operator to reset the elapsed time display and alarm time when a new filter is installed. A security password code is required to change the filter alarm time. 2.03.11 LCD information center displays: Filter type(s) installed Filter status Face Velocity Alarm conditions (Both Filter and Airflow) Filter life remaining bar graph Timer 2.03.12 Control panel with touchpad controls for system operations (blower, lights, timer, menu and mute) are at eye level. 2.03.13 Clean-Sweep(tm) Air Foil allows air to sweep the work surface for maximum containment. Air foil is ergonomic to allow comfortable resting of arms. 2.03.14 Side-Entry Air foils are aerodynamic and located on both sides of sash opening to direct room air along sides of the ductless enclosure. 2.03.15 Upper dilution air supply allows air into the ductless enclosure from above the work area which bathes the back of the sash with room air and directs concentrations away from the sash opening. 2.03.16 Upper containment sash foil allows room air to bleed in between the sash and the handle to reduce turbulence and direct concentrations away from the users breathing zone. 2.03.17 Zone-perforated rear baffle contains three zoned sections of perforations to direct air in a non-turbulent laminar air stream across the interior of the enclosure. 2.03.18 The ductless enclosure control has a SmartFlow air monitor to maintain constant face velocity. 2.03.19 Two utility ports are located in either corner on the lower rear wall to allow for pass-through of electrical cords. 2.03.21 Optional utility shelves constructed of epoxy-coated aluminum hook into rear baffle perforation to keep items off of work surface. 2.03.21 Optional Canopy Connection Kit (not included with the ductless enclosure) for thimble ducting the ductless enclosure to the outside is available. 2.03.22 Optional adjustable-height base stand (not included with ductless enclosure) rovides a working height from 30 to 36". Dimensions are as follows: Nominal Dimensions 2 ft. wide: 24" w x 29" d x 27.5"-33.5" h 3 ft. wide: 36" w x 29" d x 27.5"-33.5" h 4 ft. wide: 48" w x 29" d x 27.5"-33.5" h 5 ft. wide: 60" w x 29" d x 27.5"-33.5" h 6 ft. wide: 72" w x 29" d x 27.5"-33.5" h PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01 Inspection 3.01.01 Carefully check the contents of the carton for damage that might have occurred in transit. 3.02 Preparation 3.02.01 Verify equipment rough-in before proceeding with work. 3.02.02 Coordinate with other trades for the proper and correct installation of plumbing and electrical rough-in and for rough opening dimensions required for the installation of the hood. 3.03 Installation 3.03.01 Install according to manufacturer's instructions. 3.03.02 Install according to standards required by authority having jurisdiction. 3.03.03 Install equipment plumb, square and straight with no distortion and securely anchor as required. 3.03.04 Touch up minor damaged surfaces caused by installation. Replace damaged components as directed by Architect. 3.04 Cleaning 3.04.01 Clean equipment, casework, countertops, and all other surfaces as recommended by the manufacturer, rendering all work in a new and unused appearance. 3.04.02 Clean adjacent construction and surfaces which may have been soiled in the course of installation of work in this section. 3.05 Protection 3.05.01 Provide all necessary protective measures to prevent exposure of equipment and surfaces from exposure to other construction activity. 3.05.02 Advise contractor of procedures and precautions for protection of material and installed equipment and casework from damage by work of other trades.
