How to reduce lab energy costs: 5 ductless hood scenarios

Laboratories have to balance the conservation of energy with the need for safety. Of course safety is always top priority; however, saving energy can be the difference between a productive lab and a lab that can't afford its own operating expenses.

Here are 5 situations where choosing a Ductless Hood is the right move:

1.     The same protocol is being repeated consistently with very little variation in volume or chemicals used.

2.     Installing ductwork is simply not feasible.

3.     The lab already has a ducted chemical fume hood, but requires additional work space for light duty chemical work.

4.     The lab always works with non-hazardous chemicals, or the chemicals used are in non-hazardous quantities or concentrations.

5.     The lab has limited space or budget and needs a hood to be mobile for storage or sharing between labs.

Make sure the ductless hood you select meets the recommended standards of SEFA 9 for use with non-hazardous and hazardous manufacturer approved applications--don’t just accept what is being provided, ask for proof!
